Generally, robot is developed into two parts which are fixed and mobile robots. Fixed robot is robotic manipulator used in manufacturing that cannot move their base away from the work being done. Mobile robot is typically platforms with wheels or tracks attached. Some robot employs legs in order to move.

J.J Craig in his book “Introduction to Robotics Mechanics and Control” tried to provide readers with real-world practicality with underlying theory presented. The book is about introduction to robotics introducing science and technology of mechanical manipulation. This edition consists of 13 chapters including numerous exercises and programming assignment appears at the end of each chapter which is mostly recommended to introduction to robotics book.

This book is an ideal handbook for engineers developing robotics system. It is obviously seen that introduction to robotics explained in this book consisting of, chapter 1 discusses about an introduction to the field of robotics. Chapter 2 copes the mathematics used to describe positions and orientation in 3-space. Chapter 3 and chapter 4 talks about the geometry of mechanical manipulators. Chapter 5 consisting of investigation connected to kinematics to velocities and static forces. Chapter 6 conversing the forces and moments required to cause motion of a manipulator. This is the problem of manipulator dynamics. Chapter 7 confers the describing motion of the manipulator in terms of trajectories through space.

Chapter 8 connects to the mechanical design of a manipulator. Chapter 9 and 10 discuss the exploration of methods of controlling a manipulator. In chapter 9 emphasis on the linear aspect of control methods and chapter 10 focuses on non-linear realm. Then chapter 11 explores the relatively new field of active force control with a manipulator.
